This is an exciting time to be joining the Emergency Duty Service as we have remodelled our service structure.  Safeguarding Berkshire out of hours

 

We care about the wellbeing of our service users and work with partner agencies to protect some of our most vulnerable service users.  The Berkshire Emergency Duty Service (EDS) is seen as a safe and effective service, safeguarding the children and vulnerable adults of Berkshire.

What it’s like working in our team…

 

The Emergency Duty Service (EDS) is the primary contact for members of the public and professionals who have concerns about a child or vulnerable adult’s welfare and safety outside of normal office hours, and an out of hours Appropriate Adult Service that provides a response to vulnerable Adults/Children and Young People who find themselves in police custody. EDS responds to all social care emergencies that arise out of hours and which cannot be left until the next working day.

 

Working on a Rota, EDS workers give priority to those people at greatest risk and provide social work assessments and emergency help until the next working day when daytime services will take over.           

 

You will be supported to carry out the following duties, responsibilities and training…

 

 

  1. To be part of the Screening Officer rolling rota providing crisis social work intervention in partnership with safeguarding agencies 365 days a year. This will involve working evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.
  2. To act as the single point of contact for members of the public and partner agencies who may have concerns over a child, young person or vulnerable adult.
  3. To process and screen contacts in accordance with referrals from professionals and families concerning children and adults in a timely, efficient and safe manner.
  4. Providing accurate information and advice as necessary within strict timescales.
  5. Responsible for entering details of all initial enquiries and contacts onto the MIS electronic system and uploading associated documentation and sent to the Duty Manger in a timely manner.

What we’re looking for…

 

We are looking for people who have experience of front-facing customer work, who hold an NVQ 111 or evidenced equivalent experience to the role. You will need to be prepared to work unsocial hours including evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.  You will have initiative and the ability to work within the team and to internal timescales.
