Bracknell Forest hosts a unique team, Public Health for Berkshire – a shared service that supports public health work across the County’s six local authorities.  

We want to do all we can to help our residents stay safe from Covid-19.  We need to be confident that people understand the risk and are equipped to make informed decisions at a point in time based on the latest guidance and the local situation.  And that this information is conveyed in manner that is meaningful and compelling. 

To achieve this, we are looking to boost our support to LA and partner teams, with new posts and contracts to develop and deliver a communications and engagement strategy using social marketing approaches.  

What it’s like working in our team… 

In other times our team would be based in Bracknell Forest Council Offices but at the moment we are all working from home.  We are still very much a team, working across our public health network from Slough to West Berkshire and meeting virtually on a regular basis.  We work closely with partner organisations across local government, the NHS and voluntary and community sector. 

We have good IT equipment and support and use MS Teams for virtual working.  Mostly, you would have office hours but will need to be flexible with occasional evening and weekend working. 

This post is for 18 months in the first instance with the possibility of being made permanent. We are open to secondments or appointments, please discuss with your line manager if you are seeking a secondment. 

You will be supported to carry out the following duties, responsibilities and training… 

  • To develop a strategic approach based on social marketing techniques to target behaviour change interventions to help residents stay safe from Covid-19. 
  • To build resources for sharing information about Covid-19. 
  • To work closely with the health intelligence team to stay abreast of Covid developments across Berkshire. 
  • To build and maintain effective working relationships with public health and comms and engagement teams across our patch. 
  • To manage contractors and/or a small team of staff.

What we’re looking for… 

We are looking for a resourceful and imaginative individual, comfortable in a team environment and in working across organisations.  You will have a passion for health and wellbeing and tackling health inequalities. 

You will have experience of using social marketing or comms and engagement to influence behaviour and ideally of working in a public health environment.  You will be familiar with the direct and indirect impacts of Covid and understand what can be done to mitigate the risks to individuals, their families and communities. 

You will be motivated, adaptable and able to work at pace.  You will be able to interpret and convey data driven information clearly and your written English will be excellent.
