Our long-term social work teams have successfully embedded the Family Safeguarding Model and we want to replicate these successes in a bespoke and enhanced manner within our Assessment Team.

We want practitioners to join us in providing a compassionate and safety-first approach to children and families at risk or in need of services.

The team predominately undertakes child in need assessments (Single Assessments) and child protection assessments (Section 47’s) using a range of child and adult tools to enhance our analyses, to measure change and to design short, medium or long-term interventions.

The team works hard – often under pressure – to ensure children and families receive a timely service. We know that social work at the front door is a demanding and complex job. You will work alongside a team equipped with the tools to build meaningful relationships and make lasting changes for families. We strive to deliver high quality social work through our comprehensive learning and development offer and good reflective supervision and peer support.   

You will be supported to carry out the following duties, responsibilities and training…

Social worker/Senior Practitioner:

  • To identify the needs of children and families referred and negotiate delivery of services where appropriate. A large part in this will be to promote listening to children at every opportunity, ensuring their views are heard, recorded and acted upon in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • To work alongside other professionals in assessing children in need and undertaking child protection.
  • To carry a duty caseload of single assessments under S17 and S47 of the Children’s Act. This will include taking part in a weekly duty system (approximately one duty day per week), responding to child protection.
  • Develop SMART safety plans with families and arrange/provide appropriate intervention.
  • To make effective use of time and be able to prioritise alongside your Supervisor, be able to set clear goals and strategies.
  • To develop and maintain accurate case records and comply with the Department’s policies and guidelines.

Assistant Team Manager:

  • To assist the management team with reflective supervision of Social Workers, Family Workers (in line with the supervision policy) and other staff as required, including providing feedback and analysis of performance.
  • To lead on strategy meetings by working together with partner agencies to conclude with safe and proportionate threshold decisions. This includes working in a way that encourages and develops inter-agency co-operation.
  • To challenge and support social workers to strive towards improved performance where possible and if necessary, support them through an improvement programme.
  • To contribute, with management support, to the impartial provision of service in terms of allocation, assessment, care planning and interventions, through supervision and through the organisation of work requested.
  • Ensure assessments of need are well-informed that lead to a high quality and considered analysis.

The successful candidates will join a newly developed service area, consisting of stable and enthusiastic teams. You will be supported by a well-organised First Contact Team that consists of both early help and Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub, working closely with a variety of associated partners to ensure appropriate and timely assessment and plans for children.

Interview date...

Interviews for the Assistant Team Manager post will be held on Monday 2nd March. There will be a presentation which we will expect the candidates to prepare. The presentation title will be sent out to the candidates who have been shortlisted at point of invitation to interview.

Interviews for the Social Worker / Senior Practitioner posts will be held on Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th March.
