Bracknell Forest Council

Every child deserves to be seen, known and able to access education. We are looking for a motivated and determined Child Missing Education Officer to play a key role in identifying, locating and supporting children who are missing from education across Bracknell Forest.

At the heart of this role is a simple but important aim: to ensure children do not become lost from education and that their safety, wellbeing and right to learn remain firmly in view.

If you want a role where your persistence, curiosity and relationship-building skills can make a real difference to children’s lives, this could be the opportunity for you. You will investigate cases where children may not have suitable education provision in place, working with schools, families, other local authorities and partner agencies to understand individual circumstances and secure the right educational pathway.

At Bracknell Forest, we pride ourselves on being a stable and well-managed council where employees can thrive in a supportive environment. We recognise the importance of a healthy work-life balance and offer a range of flexible working arrangements, including remote and home working options, depending on service needs.

Based in Bracknell Forest, you will work flexibly across council buildings and community settings, with opportunities for hybrid working where service needs allow.

About you…

Are you passionate about ensuring every child has access to education? We are looking for a proactive, organised and determined individual who can investigate, problem-solve and build effective relationships with schools, families and professionals.

You will be confident in gathering and analysing information, using your judgement to understand individual circumstances and taking appropriate action to help children access suitable educational provision.

About the team…

You will join our ambitious Education Welfare Service, working alongside colleagues across Education Welfare, Elective Home Education and wider children’s services. We are a small team that values sharing expertise, learning from one another and taking a joined-up approach to supporting children and families.

Key responsibilities…

  • Manage a caseload of children missing education, tracking, monitoring and supporting their return to appropriate educational provision.
  • Investigate cases where children have no identified education provision, using information from families, schools, other local authorities and partner agencies.
  • Provide advice, support and appropriate challenge to schools regarding admissions and the removal of children from the school roll.
  • Maintain accurate records and use information and data to support effective oversight, reporting and decision-making.
  • Work collaboratively across agencies, keeping safeguarding and the child’s welfare at the heart of your practice.

Our benefits…

  • Hybrid working opportunities to support your wellbeing and work-life balance.
  • Paid employee volunteering scheme.
  • Local government pension scheme, with life insurance cover.
  • Recognition of continuous service attained within the NHS and UKHSA when calculating some benefits. (Terms and Conditions apply)
  • Career development through internal and external training opportunities.
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity, adoption and fostering leave.
  • Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) to support your health and wellbeing.
  • Inclusive and social working environment with a variety of staff networks and a sports and social club.
